Mary is Work Your Way’s expert on Small Business, Freelancing and Self-Employment.
Mary is a business woman and mother of three with over ten years’ experience of running businesses, as well as mentoring and supporting working mothers to do the same.
She is passionate about living a life that is truly flexible. So much so, that when she experienced the challenges of starting a business with young children in tow, she founded Work Your Way, the community for freelance, self-employed and entrepreneurial parents, to provide ideas on how to work from home. Thanks its many contributors, it has now become an excellent resource providing expert advice on flexible working, freelancing, franchising, direct-selling and working from home, as well as feature articles on parenting, finance, health and wellbeing. Mary is also the founder of its sister site, Work Your Way Flexible Jobs, which advertises flexible and home-based jobs.
Mary is a prolific writer and blogger. As well as writing for local newspapers and print magazines, she contributes to other high profile blogs on the Internet. These include London Mums the free and independent peer support group for mums in London; The Small Business Blog founded by Stefan Topfer, Group CEO & Chairman of WinWeb; and The Sage Business Blog.
She also happens to be passionate about self-employment and anything that affects the little leaguers out there – sole traders, freelancers and micro-businesses, the true backbone of this economy. She helped her husband set up his decorating business long before she founded her own and together they built it into a business that now employs others.
Mary is a “Head Roadie” for the global community Enterprise Rockers – founded by Tony Robinson OBE and Tina Boden to make life better for micro-businesses.
And finally, each year, Mary co-hosts the London Mums and Work Your Way International Women Day’s Conference. In 2013 this was held at London City Hall, where she spoke about nurturing female entrepreneurship through the power of collaboration, sharing a platform with Mr. Boris Johnson Mayor of London, Mr. Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor for Business and Enterprise and many others.
