As busy freelance and small biz owner mums, we’re constantly on the go. Juggling work in-between school runs and managing, at least some work, during half-terms and holidays.
The problem is that we’re so used to juggling, we can feel that we ought to valiantly battle-on on our own. And when it comes to managing a business, that could be our downfall.
To work smart and run a profitable business, you need to work ON your business, not IN it. There is a difference!
Here are my top 3 reasons why you should seriously consider outsourcing.
- Appear bigger than you are: If you are providing a service, outsourcing can make a vast difference to the type of projects you are able to secure. For example, teaming up with one other person could help you attract bigger or more lucrative projects. Many freelancers have gone on to form agencies in this way.
- Present a professional image: Similarly, outsourcing certain tasks can work wonders for your professional image. Something as simple as a telephone answering service can ensure that you have a ‘virtual receptionist’ to take your calls 24/7. I use alldayPA and am so impressed with their service, consider them to be an essential addition to my ‘office’. They answer all calls on my behalf in a professional manner, will either put the call through to me immediately or take a message and will then email the message to me so that I can return the call at my convenience. This has to be far better for my callers than being greeted by my voicemail!
- Bring on board talent and expertise: By all means, learn new skills wherever you can. However, far better to outsource to an expert, than struggle on by yourself if you don’t really know what you’re doing! One of my favourite sayings is “do what YOU do best then outsource the rest!” In the long run, it could save you time and money.
What has been your experience of outsourcing? What reasons would you add to my top 3?
